MILITARY PROJECTS

Client: 1st Medical Brigade

Military Medals

US Army, Ft. Hood, Texas

Project Description:

The goal of TFA for Military Applications is to build resilience of our warriors through trauma education, early intervention and the reduction/prevention of secondary traumatization and long term Combat Stress Disorders.

The purpose of the military trainings is to broaden and enhance Self-Aid and Buddy-Aid skills by teaching soldiers techniques and tactics to stabilize themselves during hi stress situations and reregulate themselves ‘after the fight’.

Our teams provided a series of Pre-deployment trainings at Ft. Hood in Trauma First Aide™ for members of the 1st Medical Brigade including physicians, nurses, techs and combat medics.   Ranks included officers from captains to colonels and enlisted from specialists to privates to master sergeants.

The goal is to reduce the immediate and long-term impact of events and increase the soldier’s ability to stay in the fight.  TFA enhances a soldier’s ability to rest and recover and thus restore the resilience of their nervous systems.  Leaders are more capable to recognize the soldier who momentarily exceeds his ability to deal with the trauma being experienced.  Once recognized, the leaders have the basic knowledge to assist the soldier in returning to a more stabilized state.

Client: Maine Army National Guard

October, 2009, Bangor, ME
April, 2010, Portland, ME
October, 2010, Bangor & Portland, ME

Project Description:

Our teams provided a series of Trauma First Aide™ trainings in Bangor and Portland at for the Maine Army National Guard conferences titled “Working with the Military”.

The goal of TFA for Military Applications is to build resilience of our warriors through trauma education, early intervention and the reduction/prevention of secondary traumatization and long term Combat Stress Disorders.

The purpose of the trainings was to educate mental healthcare providers working with military clients on how trauma effects the nervous system, how to recognize signs and symptoms of dysregulation in the nervous system and the need to provide a balanced physiological-psychological approach when working with trauma.  Mental health providers learned simple TFA skills that are helpful to stabilize and regulate their clients for more effective psychological interventions.  They also learned the value of these same skills for effective self-care.
